Yakisoba recipe

Yakisoba is a kind of Japanese fried noodle, a delicious quick meal with meat and vegetables.

Okinami ingredients

Yakisoba, fresh noodles x 2 180g packets
Yakisoba Sauce, 500g bottle
Kizami, Nori sprinkles 50g
Beni-shoga, sushi ginger with shiso leaves 50g (drained weight)

4-6 Tbsps yakisoba sauce for recipe
Beni-shoga and Kizami for garnish


Other ingredients

1/2 Tbsp vegetable oil (tastes more authentic with sesame oil)
100g (1/4 lb) boneless pork or chicken, thinly sliced (optional)
1-2 peeled and thinly sliced carrot
1 green sweet pepper, chopped (optional)
1/4 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 cabbage leaves, chopped
Salt and pepper
50ml (1/4 cup) of water

Medium sized Frying pan, Wok, or skillet (or a pot with wide base)


Directions

Heat vegetable oil in frying pan on medium heat.
Stir-fry the pork or chicken until almost cooked. (optional)
Sprinkle with salt and pepper to season.
Add carrots, onion, and green bell pepper (optional) in the pan and stir-fry for a couple of minutes.
Add cabbage in the pan and stir-fry for a minute.
Loosen noodles and add.
Pour 1/4 cup of water over the noodles and cover the pan.
Turn down the heat to low and steam for a few minutes.
Remove the lid and add Yakisoba sauce. (Adjust the amount of sauce as you taste). Stir the noodles quickly.

Divide the finished Yakisoba between two plates.
Sprinkle with Kizami and Beni-shoga.
Serve and enjoy
